Kosovo committed to develop its power sector in accordance with applicable EU Law and Directives and is signatory (through United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo) of ECSEE Treaty.
New legal and regulatory system already undergone major reform steps, including: Promulgation of new Laws on Energy, Electricity and Energy Regulator. Establishment of Ministry of Mining and Energy and Energy Regulatory Office, Preparation of reform blueprint, including proposed market design.
Unbundling of vertically integrated Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) has already started, aimed at separation of independent Transmission System and Market Operator (TSMO).
The European Agency for Reconstruction was financing a project to complete unbundling from KEK through the establishment and institutional development of an independent TSMO.
Corporate Solutions, together with Kema ,worked for over 18 months on unbundling, institutional strengthening, designing market processes, operating rules and procedures and training on number of technical and business aspects.
