The Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan has received a credit from the International Development Association to improve the waste water collection and treatment systems in two important cities in Uzbekistan: Bukhara and Samarkand.
The contracting authorities for this assignment are the Bukhara Regional Production Enterprise Suvokova jointly with the Bukhara branch of the Project Coordination Unit (PCU) and Samarkand Regional Production Enterprise Suvokova jointly with the Samarkand branch of PCU.
Uzbekistan's internal water resources are equivalent to approximately 600 m3 per capita per year, placing the country amongst the most water stressed regions, and as a result emphasises the importance of protecting the quality of the country's water resources.
Within this context, the Government of Uzbekistan together with the World Bank commenced this important project to rehabilitate and improve the overall waste water services in Bukhara and Samarkand. The Government has planned for a three phased investment plan to meet the needs of these two cities. TASK A - Preliminary design; TASK B - Detailed design and Bidding documents; TASK C - Construction supervision and start up assistance.
