(ec: ukraine, 2008–2010)

The overall objective of the Project is to contribute to the development and promotion of transport on a west-east axis from Europe, across the Black Sea, through the Caucasus, across the Caspian Sea to central Asia by developing ports on the Traceca corridor (TEN-T corridor IX) in Ukraine
The Project aims to reduce ports congestion; increase the carrying capacity of rail, road and logistical corridor connections to ports; optimise the ports’ cargo handling capacities and improve cargo handling efficiency to enable them to handle increases in traffic volumes, reduce ship waiting time and associated costs.
The programme will attain the following results:

  • Analysis of existing traffic flows and forecast of potential traffic flows focusing on container traffic volumes through the region;

  • Study of the existing Ports Development Programs, Master Plans, its improving and updating, if required. Recommendations and priorities to be established for each Port;

  • List of investment projects for ports developments to be identified for three Ports and agreed. One priority project for each Port to be selected and agreed for further study;

  • Technical and Economic Feasibility Studies for selected developments delivered;

  • Preliminary Engineering Designs for selected project, when required, prepared.
